No rain around here...some a little to the South of us. I watered all day
just to keep the beds going. The grass is gone (I don't really support
grass so if it dies, I don't mow as much...just the part that gets watered
as I water the beds.)
I finished "Death's Acre" and begun "Aliens in the Backyard"...I like it as
much as I did "Botany of Desire". I've been listening to an interesting
booktape..."The Murder of Helen Jewell; the Life and Death of a Prostitute
in Nineteenth-Century New York" by Patricia Cline Cohen. She did a lot of
research on this actual murder of 1836 and includes much social history as
well as legal and forensic, which I always enjoy.
While gardening and doing housework, I always listen to a booktape, saving
the bound books for evening reading. So, I've just started a new one, "The
Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer
Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. As many of my relatives,
including one sister, served in Vietnam, I find books like this helpful in
appreciating their experiences.
Everyone have a good 4th...for the past few nights we have heard and seen
fireworks...the dogs are very unhappy and don't want to take their evening
constitutional before retiring.
