Re: Rare flower

I have no idea- their nickname is "touch me not" because of the seeds flying forth if you brush up on them. Never heard about the counter-irritant properties. I was on the coast- so no mosquitos or chiggers for that matter. But further inland were nasty black flies and "no see-ums" that could drive one crazy with itching. Seems like someone (particularly since I was working on an Indian reservation) would have known if the plant in the backyard and along other wild places would have saved some agony from itching.
Anyway- it's kind of amazing how broad the impatiens family is.
