I checked out a photo of the Viceroy, but it doesn't seem the same. I
wonder if monarchs have slightly different patterns when they first emerge
or if there is a different between the sexes.

I can't say for sure lacking picture (and a butterfly book), but the Viceroy
might/could fit the bill.
