Many of us seem to have water woes--either too much or not enough. We're on the not enough list. This AM the forecast was for "heavy rain"--but thus far all we've had is a light sprinkle for a few minutes and clear, bright skies with 80+ degree heat. And this is our "monsoon" season. It's 91 degrees at the moment outside in the shade. Inside, we've got the ceiling fans cranking and the A/C set at 80, so it's tolerable. I just wish it would rain and knock a few degrees off the temp.

Well, we need the rain terribly. It was predicted for today and tomorrow, and has been quite overcast since mid-morning, but so far not a drop. However we've been having an unusually cool start to summer. Ten days ago the temps were in the 40s, but just a week ago it shot up to the 80s on Tuesday and low 90s on Wednesday. Then a brief thunderstorm with less than half an inch of rain brought the temps back down, and it hasn't been above the low 70s in the daytime since. It's been in the low 50s at night - 51 this morning. This might be typical weather in Maine, but not lower New York. Right now it's 69. I do hope this dismal-looking weather brings us some rain - I am not really able to carry water to all the places that need it, and we don't dare just run the hose since we are on a well. I made an apple pie this AM to take to friends, then went out and weeded for an hour or so,but 9:30 I was done and it was getting warm. We are inside now with allthe windows closed up and ceiling fans on. Probably about 80 inside, but with the fans it is fine. The AC will kick on later I'm sure- it's set at 82 when we are home. It was pretty darn hot yesterday too, although my patio thermometer only said 90. (It always reads 90, except in the winter when it reads 20.) Anyway off to weed the corn before it gets really scorching, I should have been out there an hour ago.
