Re: dahlias

Wow David- that sounds like lots of fun. I went to a plant sale in SF several years ago that served food and wine while you shopped. What a perfect combination : )

Linda and I attended the gala sneak preview of the flower show at the Sonoma
County fair. The hall of flowers is an exhibit under 20,000 sq ft where
landscapers and enthusiasts put together gardens within a theme. It's always
fun to go the sneak preview where we are served wine and food and where we get
to see the judging for the seperate gardens. This year the plant most used
was dahlias. For several years my hibiscus were the main attraction but no
more. And frankly, hibiscus are lousy flowers for indoor exhibits that are
judged because you can't rely on the flowers opening and looking nice just
when you want them to. Anyway, you can't believe the size, color and plant
habit combinations of these dahlias. Tremendous! I have several dahlias and
they went from plug to nice size plant in a year. We have been using them in
combination with other flower we grow here for really beautiful arrangements.
I don't remember if I sent a dahlia web site before but if I did well I guess
I'm sending one again. But check them out. Some of them are quite stunning.
