20% chance of rain today, so I figured I had all the time in the world. It's pouring now, has been for a little while, but it's sure to pass on.
Three yrs ago I had great success with my softwood cuttings. I did them in vermiculite/perlite in a clear storage container. The next year, I used a larger container and got virtually nothing. Not sure why. Last yr I didn't get around to it. This year, I had reasonable success in a new container. At first I don't think it was moist enough, so I added some water. The Ninebark croaked but I got a Miss Kim lilac, a couple Monet Weigela, a variegated dogwood, a Burkwood viburnum and 3 Onondaga viburnums, some Abelia, Beautybush, and maybe Josee lilacs.
The Josees, rather than put out roots to the side, made a whitish ball at the base of the cutting. Anyone know why and are they worth keeping?
Still raining. KittyneIN, Zone 5
