Transplanting Lilies

I have a few L. superbum that I planted in my shade garden, only to discover that it was perhaps too shady for them. They are still alive, but pretty "leggy" and not, IMHO, thriving. I would like to move them, but do not want to lose them. When would be the ideal time and circumstances to relocate?
