RE: Clematis problem
Cathy - I have the same problem with one of my clematis. Whatever it
is, it started at the ground and is climbing right on up the plant. I
don't want it to spread to other clematis, so I'm seriously considering
removing the plant.

A mulch should take care of the "shade" part. I don't like rock mulch,
but the soil underneath the rock was damp and cool...at least for now.
