The "shrub clematis" is a weird amalgam - not a vine, but not truly a shrub (as we know it) either. It does tend to "flop" and is best appreciated adjacent to a bench or walkway where it can be observed and appreciated up close.

From: Kitty Morrissy <kmrsy@comcast.net> This year I got my first Shrub Clematis C. heracleifolia, aka Tube Clematis. Seems to be doing well but I don't expect flowers tilnextyear.---------- Will be most interested in finding out how you like this plant after a year in the garden. Had some long ago but when they died, I did not cry nor replace them. Could be they were not in enough sun to show their stuff, but I found it a floppy plant with insignificant flowers in that you could hardly see them from 5' away. So, do tell how you like it next year.
