red silver maple

Did I just never notice anything before?  This year I am spotting all sorts
of little surprises like European Ginger seedlings, only to find they're a
common occurrence.  This is the latest.  As I was pull Silver Maple seedling
# 387,472, I notice one that was solid red.  Stem and all.  Looked more like
a color for a Japanese Maple.  I've never seen one b4.  Is this a common
occurrence, too?
