Hello Donna.
Why not check out the alpine and rock gardening bunch..... they grow
plants under a foot, or less, in height when in bloom. There is the North
American Rock Garden Society web site. Believe they still have the beginners
list of 100 rock garden plants. Any of the hypertufa trough books or
articles will also contain lists of mini plants.
I do not have a list formed as yet, but I am working hypertufa troughs
into my garden and have been for the past 3 or 4 years now. They stay
outside in the garden all year round. I am also constructing a somewhat
traditional alpine/rock garden. There is no shortage of small plants that
are perfectly hardy and easy enough to grow in the open garden.
