Pam, you need to dig out and create a dry creek bed which would carry the 
water in a downpour.  I've always wanted one but was afraid I wouldn't do it 
right or wouldn't like it after all the work.  Mine would not be functional but 
merely an added garden feature. Could give your garden a whole new look and 
offer a great chance to design the appropriate plantings to go with and I'm sure 
you need something to do in your spare time :-)
