I think this is a good illustration of glaucoma, nice and simple.
The angle between the iris and the cornea narrows or closes in closed-angle
glaucoma.  In Braveheart's situation, it sounds more like open-angle
glaucoma.
Still it seems like he may need treatment of some sort in the near future.
