Re: Bird nest

How cool that you get to watch the whole thing with easy viewing. I have
two nests that I'm watching right now...but NOT easy access. We have
some swallows who built up high on our back porch. All I can see are the
little beaks resting on the rim of the mud nest. The other nest is way
deep inside a honeysuckle vine that looks more like a shrub. Sparrows. I
like to watch the babies grow up and leave. But, it is sad when your
plant gets trashed. Ever take a birds nest and watch it grow? If you
take the nest and sit it on top of a pot of dirt and water it off and
on....it starts growing "things". Whatever seeds the birds "deposited"
in there start to grow. Kind of fun for kids to watch.

We have a pot of variegated shell ginger [Alpinia zerumbet v.] just
outside out back door. A pair of sparrows have decided to call it home
and are building a nest in it. The good part is we'll be able to watch
their progress through a window as they create a family; the bad part
is they'll probably trash the ginger.
