I guess that's part of what I had in mind. All that religious stuff turns me off, like it does when I go to ECHO. But his work to really make a change in the most impoverished parts of the universe are very exemplary. And, for whatever reason he's supporting it, I am too.

Did you see the special on him on PBS? Very interesting. The program
covered his good and bad points...and how he got in trouble
politically.
The second part of the program covered what he has accomplished since
leaving the office. I was very impressed...one of the few who
actually did
something after retirement. I know it is a hard and stressful job but
there is life after it.

Hi, Verona. Meant to add a comment after your post but forgot [senior
moment]. Jimmy Carter was a terrible president. But, unlike the
current
one, he was a very decent human being who did not continually lie to
cover his bad decisions.

I
just happen to be republican, but I shook hands with Jimmy Carter
because he
was the president and deserved respect. There's only been 43!

Ok guys, now this is serious stuff.memo
A lawyer of the Defense Department, William J. Haynes II, who authored aconcluding that the President wasn't bound by laws prohibitingnot
torture and
that government agents who might torture prisoners at his direction
couldanbe prosecuted by the Justice Department, has been nominated by Bush for a LIFETIME APPOINTMENT as a FEDERAL JUDGE.

I think you'll agree that anyone reaching that conclusion, or even makingforattempt to craft such an argument, has no business being a Federal Judgelife. Please scroll down to the website below and sign the petitionblockingthis appointment.than

Dear Friend, I just signed on to a petition with People For the American Way, asking President George W. Bush to withdraw his nomination of William Haynes to a lifetime seat on the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. William Haynes is none otherthe General Counsel for the Department of Defense b the lawyer whojudge?
helped
design the administrationbs detention and enemy combatant policies.
Do you want such a person deciding what is constitutional as a
federalBushJoin me in calling on Bush to withdraw this nomination. Putting a lawyer linked to the Abu Ghraib policies on the federal bench is so outrageous, needs to hear a loud and clear message on this one! Go here and sign now: http://www.pfaw.org/go/william_haynes/
