Pine needles

I have - oops had - a dwarf variety of white pine in my back yard.  It was a
sort of standard, a round ball on a trunk when I bought it.  I candled it
over the years to keep it compact, but after about 10 yrs it's just too big.
So this morning I cut it down before the trash men came, but then I realized
those pine needles are great mulch.  So I set the branches aside to die off.
Qstn:  how long do you think it will take for the needles to brown and fall
off so i can use them as mulch?
