Kittens are adorable. There is nothing better than watching them play -- especially when they stand on their back legs and attack.

I don't know about smiles. All I know is eye closing.

I got the biggest kick out of the kitten this evening. After dinner, just at dusk, it was out playing on the lawn, chasing something (grasshoppers? ) and catching and killing a Viburnum leaf.

I didn't realize you all were talking about the "smiles" cats give when they squint. Sometimes mine to slowly close their eyes like they are very bored and wish I just would be quiet and rub them.

I heard that when you look at a cat you should not stare, but slowly
blink. If the cat blinks back, it likes and trusts you. No idea where
I got this, though.
