Don't beat yourself up. You did everything you could for the other kitty.
Most folks wouldn't have bothered to care so much.

I do agree that while it may be something minor with your new kitten, as
soon as it is safe to do, I'd take him/her to the vet anyway to be on the
safe side. We have always done that with any new furred family member (even
a sneezing hamster that was allergic to dust!) It will make you feel
better. I'm with Jesse...say those prayers until you can easily pick
him/her up and into your safe keeping.

I worry because the last kitty that tried to adopt us turned out to have
pneumonia. He'd been thrown out of a car, and when we took him to the vet
because his leg was broken, he died on the operating table. :-( It was 30
years ago and I still feel bad about it.
