Thanks Zem, I just added one more photo.  A view from the street of the
front bed showing the path to the backyard mentioned in a previous roof
photo.  I couldn't get this area from the roof because of the 2 dogwoods. 
the straight lines with landscape timbers are the places I planted the
border of Lancaster Geraniums and the curved area under the right dogwood is
planted with Russian stonecrop, Sedum kamtschaticum, which is in flower now.
