Our local garden guru recommends cottonseed meal for long term fertilization and acidification around blueberries, azaleas, hydrangeas, etc. A word of warning- it stinks if you put it on too thickly, especially in our wet climate.

I need to acidify the soil around a recently transplanted plant [big time; 3X blueberry or hibiscus, say]. Suggestions, please--short term and long.
