It is a tree. Yeah, was going to give it some time and see what happens. It just looks so odd!

I have taken my 2 smoke trees completely to the ground before... but I think
you can cut it off at about 2-3 feet and it will come back. Is it a shrub
or tree... it may come back more like a shrub but you can always pick a
leader and train it to be a tree if you want. I am not sure about the
maple... but I try not to cut anything down right away... give it some time
and see if it comes back out.
