My hiking friend has been taking more walks from her house since she
finds driving rather painful now. A few weeks ago she discovered a
vacant lot with quite a few specimens of mirabilis multiflora, a native
four o'clock, so she made me go see it. And wow was it gorgeous in full
bloom. Cool! We had never seen them anywhere else and there they were,
in this scrubby vacant lot next to the water pumping station with
traffic whizzing by. Anyway she's been back there several times and
picked a bunch of the seed pods for me.
I'll have to see how many I have, maybe I'll try a couple different
methods of germinating for next spring. I found one website that says
you can root cuttings too so maybe that's worth a try.
I thought that was very funny, we've been rambling over the desert
trails away from houses for how long and never seen it, she walks down a
major street and there's all these beautiful plants, just out of view
behind some weeds.
