People seem the like the nasty painted mulch here. I thinks it's ugly and a neighbor of mine got sick from it. I think the main kinds people use here are cedar and cypress because they don't decompose quickly - which for me, is a good reason NOT to use them. I prefer pine bark mulch because it does break down, it's acidic, and I like the color. It's not as readily available as cedar & cypress.

We use hardwood mulch at the display gardens. It's available bagged or bulk. I got a load of it last year (free from the city after an awful storm) It does the trick but it's not very pretty. I think it's used quite a bit here in neIN pbecause it's plentiful and cheap.

As I said, most year's I use pine bark, but sometimes I use leafmold. I have an abundance of it this year so I may just skip the pine this time around.

Lots of people use cedar here since it is inexpensive and plentiful. But
some use that horrible dyed stuff. Yuck.

What's most common in your area? I'm sure that most of you use whatever is
free and to hand, but what do you see in your neighborhoods?
