I have used free mulch forever as a base then put some pretty sprinkled on top if I am feeling picky. The most important thing I have learned is to put newspapers under it so weed seeds can't grow. I would never be able to take care of all I do without it. sent from my i-phone Patricia Dickson On Jun 19, 2010, at 7:08 AM, "Daryl" <dp2413@comcast.net> wrote: Vera, If the mulch is from storm damaged trees, I'd grab it. Chances are that they're not infested with anything. Not many insects survive running through the chipper, then steamed in a hot pile, as it's likely to be anyway. d ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vera Metzke" <vmetzke@gmail.com> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Friday, June 18, 2010 9:22 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] Mulch? Hi All, It has been a while, life got in the way! I am trying to catch up and interested in the whole mulch theory. I have hesitated since I want to move things around till I like their positions? We had a tornadoe rip through the south end of town on the night of the 5th. Needless to say, I am fine, no one killed and only 1 seriously injured. Many trees and homes damaged. Currently mulch is abundant. It is a mix of pines/oak/maple/cedar trees. Should I grab some to use at this time? I have always been hesitant due to the additional insects that may be in the woods. Any suggestions? Thoughts?
