Sorry, Jim, I had to reduce the file size so those on a dial up did not
have to wait forever to see um....

donna has been kind enough to post three pictures i took of a local
bombax
[probably b. malabarcum, but who knows] in bloom. the bombax, a native
of
tropical asia is, oddly enough, deciduous. it blooms profusely at this
time
of year [before leafing out]. the flowers, which are borne in
clusters,
are
5" to 8" across and have that clear succulence of cactus and waterlily
blooms.
