from rodents. I just simply wouldn't put something like that against my
bulbs. Anyone else ever heard of this?

Just letting her know it bothers you would probably do the trick. I have
found that the easiest way to get people to do something is just to ask
them.
Most smokers, IMHO, are pretty considerate of the fact that people are
bothered
by their smoke.
