I read somewhere that using cut rose canes over newly seeded areas was a good deterrent for cats. I've used that method several times, and it works like a charm. I have a lot more rose canes than sycamore balls or other spiky devices.

What about using those little spike devices that keep cats out of indoor
plants or mulch with sycamore balls to keep them out of your front garden?

Prickly bushes do work very well in discouraging cats.  My Chestnut rose

is

just huge and safely houses a multitude of small birds.  The same holds

true
for an enormouse multiflora rose. The large birds can just fly higher in
the trees.
