A shame you lost them Gene. These had some damage from the December storm, plus they had been causing more shade in combination w my neighbors pine, than I wanted. I kept the redbuds, but thinned them by about a 1/3. The cherry was just poorly placed, growing through electric wires. Birch too, 2 pieces broke over the wires.
I thought the redbud felt dense enough to provide a decent burn. thanks. Kitty neIN, Zone 5----- Original Message ----- From: "Gene Bush" <genebush@netsurfusa.net>

Certainly, Kitty Have in the past and will again. Nothing wrong with redbud. Fairly dense and burns just fine when dried. Between Ike last fall and ice thiswinter I will have some in my wood pile this fall. Lost 3 mature redbuds upon the hillside to Ike. Some smaller ones to the ice. Wild cherry is great and smells good when burning. I cut down a cherry (newport flowering plum), part of a birch, and a large portion of a couple of big redbuds. A friend asked me for the birch and cherry to age for future use in a fireplace. I asked if he wanted the redbud and he said he didn't know if it was good for using that way. Itseems like fairly dense wood, as dense as the cherry, so I'd think it wouldbe ok. Has anyone burned redbud before?
