Excellent deal - what is Menards? Like a Lowe's?? On 3/29/09, Kitty <kmrsy@comcast.net> wrote:Yeah, they had mostly floribundas but I found a couple of climbers and a couple of shrub roses. I sometimes buy a few things I find cheaply to expand the choices at my sale. Are they for your plant sale?Brisk here--wind chill has dropped the temp to 44 degrees; too cold for me but a lot of plants seem to deem it warm enough to wake up. For example, Salem, which bills itself as "Cherry City," is awash in cherry blossoms, both ornamental and fruiting. I had to do MG stuff yesterday and thought I'd do some more cleanup here today, but just too chilly & icky. I ran several errands & a bit of shopping then settled into an afternoon in the garage mixing potting soil. I still had 5 kitty litter pails of good soil a friend had given me so I stretched it out with Canadian peat, perlite, vermiculite, and screened leaf mold to yield 17 containers of mix plus enough to pot up four 2 -gallon roses (Menards had them for 50cents after rebate, so I got there early before they got beat up) and a couple of brugs. With the soil ready, I can hopefully start digging Tuesday. This won't be enough soil so I'm going to have to look for some cheap bagged soil. I still have five 2.2cu ft bales of Canadian peat and plenty of perlite, vermiculite, and fertilizer. I should screen some more leaf mold. Not hard, dramatic rain. Soaker type. It started sometime last night and hasn't let up--if anything, it's become more persistent. There's no breeze so I can only conclude the storm is in no hurry to move off.
