if they were mine, i would feed them in the container. palms have pretty big root systems, andrea. if you're going to keep it in a container for very long, we might want to inspect the roots every now and them just to be sure they have room to grow. i don't think being root bound hurts a palm per se, but it can severely limit the amount of moisture-holding material in the pot, and that can be a problem. it's like they say about the medjool date palm--it likes its head in the sun and its feet in the water; most palms would agree with that.
