Roundup was developed to kill grass. Bamboo is grass. It will kill it. Be sure to use the technical material. Be sure to read the label carefully. There are four or five different strength mixtures discussed. Be prepared to apply it two or three times at weekly intervals. Do not use a stronger mixture than advised--it will kill the tops rather than the roots.

Sounds like that stuff is bent on world domination. I don't like
herbicides as a general rule, but I think Marge has the right idea here.
And from what I hear about running bamboo, I doubt if a little Round Up
will kill the whole stand.

Would not make me happy either, Auralie. Once that stuff gets going it is hard to stop. You can keep mowing it where it hits lawn, but if it's getting into your flower bed, it's going to need digging out because it has really thick, fibrous roots that fill the bed.
In the meanwhile, keep breaking off the shoots as soon as you see them. I suppose you could brush a bit of herbicide on the cut stems, but I've not tried it as I don't want to kill my stand; just control it.
have to taste those to find out if they are good - you have to boil them first. There's a very short window of time to pick them.

My neighbor's bamboo is sendng shoots up throughout my lawn andwhich does not make me happy. However, I wondered if these areedible. Areall bamboo shoots edible or only certain kinds? I have no ideawhat kind ofbamboo this is except that it is invasive. The shoots pop up abouta foot in aday, and are about half an inch thick. They are covered with darkgrayishsheaths, but these peel off easily and underneath the stems aretender andcrunchy. They look as if they might be good in salads orstir-fried. Do any of youknow if I would be taking a chance if I tried eating them? Itwould give me asort of perverse satisfaction to get some good out of them. Auralie
