Short answer is I don't know. Never tasted one that I was aware of. But since it's described as a citron, I assume it is candied and it tastes something like a kumquat. Most of the "fruit" in commercial fruitcake turns out to be citron [although not necessarily Buddha's hand citron] that has been candied and dyed various colors.

It's a rather uncommon citrus; here's a link to a picture of the fruit

Interesting about Wal-Mart, Fran.
Not too long ago, I found a Buddha's Hand citron at our local Wal-Mart. In fact there were three of them [grafted; 7 gallon; under $20], and there aren't that many more-sophisticated nurseries that even know what they are!
My take is that if you know plants well enough to recognize healthy
from ill, you can often find some amazing selections in places like
Kmart, Home Depot, Target, and Lowes, as well Wal-Mart. So I tour
their
garden centers whenever I go there--and sometimes I make tours of them
all, just to see what's up.

I guess it may be where one lives but this weekend I found some good,

because
you never know what's going to be there from week to week. When they

something good and different in, it goes fast because folks like me
will
buy all they have! And right now I've developed an attraction for the
coral bells now that I've seen how well they wintered here. Fran

Wal-Mart - can never find anything there. But we do have a Meijer's

everything.
I wish I had the $ to shop mom and pop types, but I don't.
One of the big reasons I'm out of a job is the big box stores. They
pretty
much ran off or bought up all the mom & pop 1 hr photos. The small
stores
cared about quality and used our products. The big box places don't
care
about the quality, so won't use it. And judging from conversations
I've
had, articles I've read, and studies that have been made, they don't
need to
worry about the quality. the customers don't care, so why should
they?
