heron update

The newspaper columnist posted an update on the blue heron stuck in the
cottonwood here.

"...calls to animal control, the fire department, and the Dept of Natural
Resources produced only claims that no one could do anything.  Neighbors did
put the bird out of its misery with a blast from a shotgun, but it continued
to hang from the tree for a week after that.
"On Sunday, a resident found a friend with a 40 ft  extension ladder, and a
young neighborhood resident with an extension tree trimmer cut off the limb
that the bird hung from.  It turns out the bird had apparently been blown
into the tree and one of its broken legs had wrapped itself around a limb.
" Residents are glad it's down. but they aren't impressed that they had to
do it themelves."
