I too have an oenothera that gets pretty invasive. Probably oenothera
deltoides but there do seem to be some differences. At any rate, I pull it
out as a weed in my cottage garden area (the stuff looks just awful), but
when it popped up in the dry garden I wasn't paying enough attention. Before
I knew it, it had covered about 30 sq ft. So there I was, cussing myself
about how much of it I'd have to yank until I really looked at it. It
doesn't get much water there, so it's not nasty limp yellowy growth but a
nice billowy grey. It's covered with pretty white flowers. It's native. I
had to readjust my thinking on it and now I let it spread, just pulling it
out if I want a clear space. I don't know if eventually I'll regret it;
maybe it will attempt to swallow up the salvias or kniphofia, but for now
it's pretty nice.

Kitty,
I totally agree. I have several invasives that I have to work on to keep in
bounds. Now I have Oenothera Siskyou -- MEXICAN EVENING PRIMROSE in full
bloom. It will die back later but come back next spring even stronger. I
love the soft blooms and invite it to spread knowing that I will need to
pull it out to keep up with it.
