In a roundabout way, I suppose it played its part.
A few years after we divorced when I was well into gardening, a friend gave
me a Christmas ornament that was too large for the tree.  It was a little
banner with some garden saying and suspended from it were miniature shovel,
rake, and hoe.  I hung it over the sink in the kitchen.  Just a private joke
to myself.
