Thanks for the update Jesse. I hope Pops is around somewhere. It always worries me when I see a very noticeable behavior change in an animal. My Seamus is acting strange, we'll see the vet on the 13th. It sounds like it will be a lively summer at your place this year with all these babies.

I will Jim. I am a little concerned that I haven't seen her mate. Geese are supposed to mate for life...but I have not seen him around. The Canadian geese across the road (on our 7 acres) are BOTH hovering around the nest on the island. Every morning I see them swimming together. But I have not seen him. Maybe he is just keeping to himself till the babies are born...she was a little grouchy with him at the beginning of her nesting. I just don't know. james singer <islandjim1@verizon.net> wrote: Cool. I think animal behavior is about the most interesting of all things. Keep sending reports. Please. Peeper must want some babies really, really BAD because now she is "helping" with those babies. She is still sitting on her eggs (and according to the books, a goose sits on them for 25-30 days, she has maybe a week or so to go) and still does NOT want anybody around her nest...BUT...when she isn't sitting on them, she is "mothering" those baby ducklings and I just think it is so sweet. And the mother duck lets her. If the German Shepherds come too close to the babies, Peepers goes after them. I sure hope she has some babies because her heart is in the right place. And I haven't seen the Mr. in almost two weeks. I don't even see him on the pond. I wonder where he went? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHATIsland Jim Southwest Florida 27.0 N, 82.4 W Hardiness Zone 10 Heat Zone 10 Minimum 30 F [-1 C] Maximum 100 F [38 C] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
