Not a clue, but I've noticed the same thing with some of the trees that line
the center islands in Centerville. (Most of those trees are crab apples.)
I wonder if it has something to do with the very odd freeze/thaw cycle we
went though?

seems some of the trees in the neighborhood lost half over the winter. One
half of the tree is living and leafed out, the other side (appears) as dead
as a doornail.
So what is that all about!
