I think I probably will roll the top (it is just a bunch of slats), but the underside would be a painting nightmare. Seems like no one has a sprayer they particularly love, but they do the job with some effort.

We used a Wagner 20 yrs ago when we bought this house. Spray painted every room before moving in. It worked great, especially for ceilings.
If your arbor will be painted in place you'll need to be very careful about overspray. Even on a windless day, the paint carries. Of course you'll cover nearby plants, but you'd be surprised how far the paint might travel.
The husband of one of our MGs painted all our new wrought iron arbors. He used to work for Sherwin Williams. He used a particular type of sprayer, (was it electro-static?) that enabled the paint to be drawn to the surface even around curves so that there was very little overspray and no missed spots.
Even with this type of sprayer I'd be very concerned about getting paint on my plants. I'd be more inclined to brush or roll.

We have one made by Wagner. Actually bought it at a moving sale quite a few years ago. It served the purpose of painting an old barn/shed, but we don't use it indoors. Takes some getting used too. Even coverage was an issue, but by the time we got done we got the hang of it. If I could find it, I would send it to you. Doubt we will ever use it again as we don't have that property anymore. I really don't want to paint the back arbor by hand/roller. So..... any suggestions?
