After two weeks of below normal temperatures, we are now at 90. I have
stopped planting except for the things that love warm, like sunflowers and
zinnias. This is the first year that I have decided to just take stock and
do some rearranging this fall. I have mostly annuals and flowers that
self-seed. In many parts of the humid South, gardeners do their thing
around sunrise...coolest part of the day.
I know what you mean about putting together containers. Fortunately, the
Trial Garden Volunteers have worked on container arrangements for plant
sales. We had a couple of instructors who gave us lots of pointers. So,
I'm finding it getting somewhat easier. For me, it is much better to
gather the plants at one time to see how they look.
I've also been experimenting with the "Fine Gardening" annual container
design challenge, although I haven't submitted anything. However,
following the challenging and looking at the winners is helping to see they
type of things that look smashing.
