I suppose they thought they were working on "sage advice" when they enacted the legislation, but it's pretty silly. I checked around and every site I looked at did indicate which species, but further into each article they just shortened it to salvia. If something you read or heard was an out-take from an article, they probably used something from the middle where the species name was left off.

I just heard on the news today that Tennessee had outlawed Salvia! When I
searched further I found it was, in fact, 'Salvia divinorum' that had been
banned. Apparently it's leaves possess a hallucinogenic compound. I do hope
that garden centers are not made targets of raids. Nothing about our recent
legislation mentioned anything except 'salvia.' I know I'm getting old. <LOL>
I just have no patience with stupid people.
