It might have begun as a California thing, but you are right. My father, however, preferred his tomato sandwiches on salt-rising bread, which hardly anybody eats anymore. My childhood preference was "Wonder."

Those tomato sandwiches are best made with sourdough bread. Maybe that's a California thing. On May 6, 2007, at 10:46 AM, Andrea Hodges wrote:OH! Tomato sandwiches have always been and still are one of the great indulgences of summer. I guess it's a southern thing. Ipersonally would rather just slice it, salt it and eat it all by itself! LOL! Oh, and we also ate banana sandwiches, which I do love, same way minusthe salt and pepper.************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHATIsland Jim Southwest Florida 27.1 N, 82.4 W Hardiness Zone 10 Heat Zone 10 Sunset Zone 25 Minimum 30 F [-1 C] Maximum 100 F [38 C] --------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
