One of our Legerstroemia was hardy in a very protected location. The other 2 were less protected and were root hardy, growing back each year.

A stroll in the garden tonight tells me it isn't the same plant even before I read the tag.... mine has a finer leaf. I guess winter takes it toll on my memory as well. In any case, mine is Geranium pratense "Midnight Reiter" oh... and while I was out there, the crapemyrtle is Lagerstroemia indica 'red filli' pp14353. A slight mishap the other night has made it not quite so wonderful.... a basket came down in the windstorm and landed right on it.... sigh. I thought everything would have been fine in the cold frame/greenhouse contraption, but that darn wind was blowing so hard it was shaking it so bad..... (dark leaves, pink flowers) When I get home I will look at the name providing the tag is still there and readable. Donna Kitty wrote: Is anyone growing this? I bought it at a local nursery. The plant tag showed it to be one of the "Plants That Work" line from Novalis and gave cold hardiness as 5-9. It also said "Another wonderful selection from Plant Haven." However, a look at the plant at the Plant Haven site says only zone 7. The tag says of the exposure: morning sun to part shade, while Novalis says full sun to part shade. Who should I believe? http://www.planthaven.com/geracher.html Novalis: http://tinyurl.com/4oyqop This particular nursery guarantees their plants for 2 yrs and happily givescredit for dead plants, so I'm saving the receipt on this one. Actually, Ibought it as a replacement for another dubious purchase from the re - Alstromeria 'Glory of the Andes'. It was worth a try, but not hardy here.
