RE: clover

Do you maybe have oxalis? It sounds a lot like a plant my mom used to
have in her back yard, and I've since figured out it had to have been a
variety of oxalis.

Me too, although no wild bunnies in my yard.  Not sure it is the same
clover
as up north, ours has pretty large foliage and blooms beautiful pink
blooms.
 It covers my flowerbeds in early spring, the daffodils and other  bulbs
grow
great despite the coverage.  Then come May, the clover dies off,  just
as the
rest of the perennials and such are in full bloom, so it is not even
noticeable.
