Hi Kitty!

It's good to "see" you again! I've been cutting back on Facebook
significantly. I mostly use it to post a few news stories that
I think are interesting and to catch up on family news, but I'm using
it for gardening-related things less and less these days.

In true sisyphean fashion, I continue to plug away at hort.net. I'm
trying a different approach this time. Maybe focus on one part instead
of trying to do everything at once? :D

> So what new acquisitions are all of you boasting?

I think you saw my post on the perennials list.
but I've acquired a *lot* more since then. This seems to be the
year for really good sales, and I can't pass them up.

For example, I just bought Asarum splendens in a one-gallon pot
literally overflowing (it's about two feet wide) for only $9.

OK, I've now linked to the real-time document I keep every year for my
plants:

   http://www.mallorn.com/~lindsey/2017.txt

I try to enter every plant as I buy them (location, purchase date, size),
then add comments about cultural requirements. Finally, I put an 'x' by
the name and the location it was planted if it's in the ground already.

The big scary one for me this year is an awesome gift that I received:
Acer japonicum 'Aureum'. It's a beautiful specimen, but it's also
expensive and I'm afraid I'll pick the wrong spot and kill it. :)
I'm not sure how well it will do in part-shade here.

I have the rooftop vegetable garden planted and irrigated now, and
I'm finishing up the irrigation through the rest of the yard. Some
of it broke over the winter because I couldn't flush the system in
time.

I'm trying to make this the year that I "fix" the garden, so I'm
spending a lot of time weeding and fixing areas that had become
overgrown. The backyard almost looks decent again, and hopefully
the front will be there soon. Then I'll do the hardscape to finish
it off...

What's everyone else up to?

Chris
