Hi folks, good to hear from everyone. Was never super active on the list but kinda miss it (and am not on Facebooks etc). Here in northern Calif our drought finally broke last winter with almost 2X normal rainfall. Really impressive to see what a little water will do for the plants! The wildflowers at my place were absolutely spectacular this year and has revived my interest in encouraging them and protecting them.
Am cleaning up and revamping my small "main" garden after doing very little the past few years due to Drought and Life. Have many scented leaf herby plants which take a fair amount of dryness, and again was so startling to see how much they respond to "normal" winter moisture. A real winner has been Jerusalem sage (Phlomis) which has large bright yellow flowers in May, just finishing now, but even larger and with new plant growth this spring. Encouraging to see it could tolerate both the drought and the rain.
Like many of you I am trying to curtail my buying habits, am cultivating only this one bed, and have plans to put in a few drought tolerant plants / native shrubs this fall.
Best to everyone, Barbara Tandy, Grass Valley CA

I'm still working crazy amount of hours plus caring for elder family members and their homes as well. All the kids are either getting married, baby time, new houses and a zillion places to be.
