One of the benefits of getting old, I discovered, is the inevitable necessity of a cataract operation, especially if one lives in a place of bright sun. When they removed my cataracts, they replaced them with lenses that returned my unaided vision to 20-20. Still need drugstore glasses to read the small print, however.

Maybe that is why I couldn't wear contact, Donna. I tried many kinds in the
70's and early 80's and ended up so miserable from the tearing and the
itching, that I just gave up. I've not had the desire to try contacts
since. (Of course, one eye does have an implant from an early cataract
surgery. I don't know that I could wear contacts over an implant, anyway.)
And now that my eyes require tri-focals (read I'm feeling REALLY old) the
more I don't want to even think about trying something new in them.

This was quite a few years ago, like the 70's... I wanted contacts but
could not afford them, so did the research study grant for the extended
ones (read guinea pig)prior to their approval.
I developed a soreness and redness... which had to be investigated...
and found out I was reacting to the preservative in the over the counter
saline solutions. They switch me to a small salt tablet which I mixed
with distilled water when needed. Solved the problem.
Years later I somehow scratched my eye and while treating that, noticed
this ridge from the contacts... never put them back in my eyes again. I
used to keep them in for three months at a time, which now is a no no. I
have to agree it was nice waking up and seeing...not looking for glasses
first...
Which is more than you ever wanted to know.:)
