If I had ever had any interest in anything but b-ball and v-ball when I was a kid, I'd likely be playing it now, too. Most sports were a big yawn. I caddied all the way though high school, after school and at least two outs each day on Saturday and Sunday, and you know, I never picked up a club and tried to hit a ball off a tee. Don't know why; just seemed like a dumb game.
When I went back to college after military service, I enrolled at a junior college in California. At that time [maybe still] the JCs were under the secondary school education blanket instead of the university education blanket--which meant I had to take gym classes and a hygiene/marriage prep class [was married with two kids by then, and the class was basically about STDs and other stuff that the military pours into your ears with tedious frequency].
One of my then-wife's cousins was also enrolled at the same institution. He liked to think of himself as a jock. And he loved golf. So we hatched a scheme whereby we would both enroll in a golf class, he would play a round and turn in score cards for both of us. I, in the meantime, would go to Hollywood Park, catch the last three or four races for the day, and place his bets as well as my own. It worked for two semesters [Golf and Advanced Golf], and then I transferred to a state university, which required a whole different set of ruses and shenanigans for survival.

My father said that four years ago. Now at 76 he's still going strong and
seems to have gotten over the "death at any moment" syndrome. Happy
Birthday to you and may you have many more.

Doomsday.
Betcha weren't expecting that!
The occasion is, today I officially reached age 72 years. For some reason
at age 10 or 12, I became convinced that I would live to age 72. Now, when
I was 10 or 12, life expectancy was something like age 68. So 72 seemed
like a derring-do. Progress; Roosevelt was president and all things were
possible. But, for reasons I can't explain, age 72 has now become some
sort of end game in my mind. I have the distinct feeling that it's all
borrowed time from here on out.
