I like your advice, Marge. The cold frame should work well in our climate.
And I totally agree with your ideas of keeping rain and snow off potted
perennials during the coldest part of winter. Learned that the hard way! Rather than
clear plastic I use a cheap opaque tarp to cover the pots after they are
dormant but before extended freeze and rain/snow. I do not keep the ends open but I
guess they are rather loosely covered using boards. The only down side is the
mice find it quite to their liking, too. Kathyz5
