Re: Old southern sayings

My mother said that, too -- also the one about there being something rotten in the state of Denmark (which I never under stood). Her very best, however, was, "What goes over the devil's back comes under his belly," which I took to mean what goes around comes around. My grandmother referred to heavy handed people as those who "could break Old Billy's furnace."

My mother used to say "odd as Dick's hatband"--wonder what it referred to?

How about
"odd as Dick's hatband" or
"cute as a litter of little speckled puppies"

Haven't heard either of those for a while

Me too, because I confess I've never heard that one. Although I have a
wealth of them from my father. When I was a teenager he used to tell me
I could "irritate a wooden indian." LOL!

"Not enough to wad a shotgun" is the same thing as "Not enough to physic a
snipe" in Missouri. Means "not enuff for nuthin". LOL.
