Most of us here in California go by the Sunset zones as they are so much more detailed and applicable than the USDA zones (though I am looking forward to having more heat tolerance info available thru AHS). I don't even know what USDA zone I am in. I will see if I can find any general info / plants that may be applicable.

Barb, This is on a forum discussion and I felt bad that no one was replying
to her at all so I stepped in. At first she only wanted to say zone 9 and I
explained that z9 se is way different than z9sw, so, if she could at least
give her state if she didn't want to give her town. So all I have is "in an
old neighborhood in central northern California". Some people are quite
reluctant to say more. She writes that the area is "fairly moist", but of
course, one might ask, relative to what?
Maybe you could suggest one or two widely adaptable plants, considering that
she is currently growing Ligularia, Alchemilla,
and Woodwardia, and when I tell her about them, I can ask if she knows her
sunset zone. Since she used "Alchemilla" instead of "Lady's Mantle", I'm
guessing she may have some knowledge of sunset zones.

Kitty, what town is she near? so I can check what the Sunset zone is.Shemust be north of me to have any conditions that can be considered moist!
And if so there will be lots she can grow.
